Beating Depression:Healthy Eating to Improve Mood
1. Avoid sugar and refined carbohydrates (desserts, white flour, juices other than all natural fruit juice, soda).
2. Eat a complex carbohydrate (unrefined grains, fruits, vegetables) and protein snack every 2-4 hours:
· Whole grain crackers with nut butter · Slice of apple or pear with nut butter · Vegetables with humus dip · Crackers and cheese · Cottage cheese and fruit · Nut & dried fruit mix
3. Avoid caffeine (coffee, chocolate, sodas). Green tea is ok.
4. Avoid Alcohol.
5. Take 1-2 tablespoons of an essential fatty acid per day (cod liver oil, salmon oil, flax seed oil, evening primrose oil).
